Alexander McQueen wasn’t the only British designer to wow London Fashion Week with a snowy-draped catwalk.

On Wednesday night, Welshman Julien MacDonald unveiled a stunning autumn/winter 2000 collection that featured models in sleek designs sliding down an icy catwalk.

A winter coat inspired by a wooly bear.

Part of a collection the designer says is aimed at showing off the female form, and wrapping it in items that are both familiar –like an old scarf or a teddy bear — and luxurious — like a sparkling gown.

With faux-snow flurries opening his show, Julien MacDonald said his collection, and his ice-draped catwalk was inspired by the Alaskan landscape.

But MacDonald eschews trends that alternatively raise and lower hemlines, saying he looks to creates items that are glamorous and sexy — made for women with an attitude.

“Women have an amazing body, an amazing character around them, so why put a woman in a blanket when she can wear something full of lycra and show her figure. You know I produce clothes that are very body orientated and they are for a woman who has a very strong identity and a strong character.”

MacDonald used models Jodie Kidd and Alek Wek, who like him, are rising stars in the fashion world.
